Why isn't Team ATTAC a non-profit?
There are two primary reasons:
1. It's really hard to meet the criteria to become a registered non-profit when you're starting from nothing.
2. There are many non-profits doing great work in this space who are fighting for the same funding and philanthropy from the same limited sources, and we don't want to add competition. Instead, we want to use the freedom of a for-profit model to find novel ways to bring awareness and funding to the epilepsy fight.
How does Team ATTAC make money?
Here are Team ATTAC's proposed revenue sources:
1. We hope to soon be hosting cycling races and events, which participants will pay to enter.
2. We will support or sponsor others in creating Team ATTAC events or in their fundraising efforts as they participate in existing events.
3. Sales of our delicious coffee, branded gear, apparel, books, and other merchandise.
4. Sponsorships from cycling, bike racing, and epilepsy/medical research-related companies and manufacturers.
3 / How do I know how much of the purchase price supports epilepsy research?
Great question!
First, in a universal sense, all of the purchase price supports the Team ATTAC concept and keeps us going so we can continue to bring awareness and funding to finding a cure.
The specific number is based on the margins we get from our partners and our operating expenses. Our strategy is to split the profits between Team ATTAC and Cure Epilepsy or The Epilepsy Foundation 50/50 until our operating expenses are met, at which point we will be able to give a higher percentage to our epilepsy research partners. For example, the purchase of a bag of coffee typically nets $4 profit. So, $2 to epilepsy research and $2 to Team ATTAC. It may not seem like much, but it all adds up.
Our long-term strategy is to eventually grow this platform enough from sponsors, events, and other funding sources to give 100% of profits to epilepsy research.
